How can we help you?
At Gasoline Alley Dental, we encourage curiosity! Below are a few of our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question that you don’t see answered below, feel free to give us a call, (403) 343-8622, or ask at your next appointment – we will do our best to answer it.
Other
We get asked this question a lot! And the answer is yes; we can direct bill to the majority of Canadian insurance providers. We do ask that you try to become familiar with the basics of what your dental insurance plan covers since every carrier has multiple plans and it would be impossible for us to try to memorize what procedures are and are not covered and at what percentages.
How can I be sure what cost my dental insurance will cover in Red Deer County?
Most dental insurance carriers allow their plan members to check the basics of what their individual plan covers in their online account or by calling them to find out. We also ask that our patients understand that they are financially responsible for all services provided to them in our office, whether they have insurance or not.
Call Gasoline Alley Dental for more assistance
Our front office staff at Gasoline Alley Dental can also submit predeterminations on behalf of our patients to their dental insurance carriers. This means that they can find out the approximate amount of coverage that their individual insurance plan offers for the procedures that are part of their personalized treatment plan.
Canceling an appointment at Gasoline Alley Dental
We understand that life gets busy and emergencies can suddenly come up requiring you to cancel or rebook your dental appointment. As a courtesy to all of our other patients and staff, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible with at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or rebook your appointment. Since we have reserved a specific amount of clinic time just for you, we ask that you give us adequate notice if you need to change or cancel your appointment so that we can offer that appointment time to other patients who need to get in to see us.
Is there a fee if I cancel my appointment at Gasoline Alley Dental?
Please note that if you have had 3 missed or cancelled appointments without giving at least 24 hours’ notice, then you may be charged a cancellation/missed appointment fee as determined by the Alberta Dental Fee guide.
Botox
Until Dr. Ian Wilson meets with you to evaluate your needs, it’s impossible to say how specifically your individual case will be executed; but we can tell you that all you need is the initial consultation, which can be the same visit as the initial injection visit, and then there will be a 2 week follow up.
Benefits of Botox
Botox is a fantastic treatment that helps a wide range of patients with muscle soreness when chewing, TMJ or TMD issues, and also a wide range of cosmetic goals including the forehead, brows, crows feet, bunny lines, and more.
It can help lessen muscle activity in people who clench and grind too much as well as decrease or prevent wrinkles.

Crowns & Bridges
Dental crowns in Red Deer County, AB give Dr. Ian Wilson a way to protect teeth that are too damaged to be saved with a dental filling. Our goal at Gasoline Alley Dental is to preserve the structure of your teeth for as long as possible. Dental crowns save a damaged or broken tooth from extraction and also restore your appearance and ability to chew comfortably.
How Does a Dental Crown Procedure Work at Gasoline Alley Dental?
We customize your dental crown by taking impressions of your teeth and choosing a shade of white that closely matches surrounding teeth. The goal is a prosthetic tooth that functions well and looks so natural that no one will be able to tell that it’s a crown.
Dr. Ian Wilson enjoys designing and fabricating beautiful, realistic dental crowns and bridges. He will collaborate with you to ensure that the results meet and exceed your expectations.

Exams & Cleanings
This is another question that we are asked often. Yes, x-rays are safe, and yes, they are necessary. Most patients aren’t aware that the amount of radiation in 2 bitewing dental x-rays has been measured to be equal to the same amount of radiation that we are exposed to on an average day that naturally exists in the air, water, certain foods like bananas and brazil nuts, granite countertops, etc.
Gasoline Alley Dental's Commitment to you
Although we won’t take an unnecessary amount of x-rays, you can rest assured that the dental x-rays we do take at Gasoline Alley Dental are safe, our radiographic equipment is regularly inspected and maintained, and that we will always provide personal protection in the form of a lead apron for you to wear during an x-ray.
Why are x-rays necessary at Gasoline Alley Dental?
X-rays are necessary to detect dental issues that can’t be seen and diagnosed by the dentist during a visual exam alone. These issues can be as simple as decay below the gumline or under a previously placed crown or as complex as a supernumerary (extra tooth) or an impacted wisdom tooth. This information is vital in allowing Dr. Wilson to be able to make a proper diagnosis of existing dental issues.
At Gasoline Alley Dental, we have a strong belief in preventative dentistry; this means that we like to see our patients at least once a year for dental cleanings and a routine dental exam with x-rays. Sometimes after the initial exam and clean we recommend you come more frequently in order to get control of your dental hygiene issues. For prevention of future dental issues and maintenance of healthy gums and teeth, the Alberta Dental Association & College recommends visiting your dentist every six months.

Family Dentistry
Dr. Wilson often hears the question from parents, "What age should our children begin seeing the dentist?" His answer is, “If you have any concerns about their gums or teeth we can see them at any age. But it can be useful for them to come with you to your appointments so they get accustomed to the clinic environment and what we do. And they can begin coming for regular check ups and cleans as early as 3 years old.”
What is the cost of my child's first visit at Gasoline Alley Dental?
If there is not a specific concern or treatment you desire for your child, we start our youngest patients off with a no-charge Happy Visit. This is a chance for one young kids to sit in the dental chair, meet Dr. Wilson and our staff, have their teeth counted, explore the dental office a little bit, and just get comfortable with someone other than their parents looking in their mouth. At Gasoline Alley Dental, we love Happy Visits, and we look forward to meeting your son or daughter!
Teeth Whitening
Most of our patients that have an interest in a whiter, brighter smile are curious if the whitening or bleaching process is safe. You can rest assured that it is definitely a safe procedure as long as you follow the instructions given to you by our staff members. Although it is a safe procedure, some patients develop sensitivity after they use any sort of whitening product on their teeth. Before starting the bleaching process at our office, it is definitely a good idea to try a whitening toothpaste or whitening strips at home for a couple of weeks to see if your teeth become sensitive to just that little bit of stimuli.
What does a healthy smile look like?
Teeth have a natural whitish-yellow colour because the middle layer of the tooth, the dentin, has a yellowish hue. This means that healthy teeth will naturally be a light whitish-yellow in colour. If you have concerns about the colour of your teeth, we recommend that you have a full dental check-up and cleaning before using any whitening product to assess the health of your teeth and to decide if whitening would be a good option for you.
