What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are retainers made of clear, flexible plastic that are custom designed and fabricated for individual patients to straighten their teeth over a period of time. Just like traditional braces, the aligners progressively change the patient’s smile for the duration of their treatment.
Unlike traditional braces, you can remove Invisalign aligners for brushing and flossing teeth, and there are no wires or brackets to try to clean around. Since the aligners are removable, there are also no limitations on what you can or can’t eat- just make sure to brush and floss before putting your aligners back in!
How Does the Invisalign Process Work?
If you want to check out Invisalign as an option to straighten your teeth, then we first start with a free consultation. At Gasoline Alley Dental, we require healthy gums and teeth before starting Invisalign therapy so that we don’t compound any pre-existing dental issues.
Dr. Whitehead and our staff will take a look at your smile, snap some photos, and give you an estimate on the cost and the timeline. Since Invisalign treatment is so customized, the price and duration of treatment cannot be estimated without an in-office visit.
If you are satisfied with the cost and duration estimate, you have good dental health and are ready to pursue Invisalign treatment; then we begin the process by taking a digital scan of your upper and lower teeth. From that information, Dr. Whitehead will create a customized treatment plan to help you achieve the smile that you desire.
Once your Invisalign aligners are ready, we will have you come in to have your initial fitting and go over specific instructions on wearing and taking care of your aligners and maintaining your healthy gums and teeth during Invisalign treatment. We will then schedule you for subsequent appointments to check on the progress of your treatment, deliver your next set of aligners, and make any adjustments to your treatment plan as necessary.
As with any orthodontic treatment, once you complete treatment with Invisalign, you will likely need to wear a clear retainer to keep your teeth from sliding back into their original position. Dr. Whitehead will see you periodically to check your retainer and to determine how often you need to wear it.
